State Farm has begun paying a one-time five billion dollar dividend to its auto customers, and Florida policyholders started receiving notice of it this week, Gulf Coast News reported on Friday.

The average payment in Florida is 173 dollars, according to that report, with individual amounts varying.

The dividend itself is set out in a company news release issued from Bloomington, Illinois on 31 July. It states that State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company has begun issuing payments to qualifying auto customers as part of a one-time five billion dollar cash-back dividend, which the company describes as the largest in its more than one hundred year history.

How the amount is worked out

Each payment is a percentage of the premium paid on each qualifying policy in 2025. The percentage is not uniform. State Farm says it varies by state and runs from 4 percent to 10 percent, and it has not published which figure applies to Florida.

That band and the Florida average together bracket the underlying premium. At the top of the band a 173 dollar payment implies an average qualifying Florida premium of roughly 1,730 dollars in 2025, and at the bottom it implies roughly 4,325 dollars. Both are derived from the two published figures and neither source states them.

The distribution is running in waves across more than 49 million State Farm Mutual auto vehicles, and the company says the process will take several months to complete nationwide.

What the dividend does not cover

The release is specific about the payer and the policy. It names State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, and it confines eligibility to qualifying auto customers and to premium paid on auto policies in 2025.

It makes no reference to home, condominium or renters cover. In Florida those lines sit with a separately registered company: the state's Division of Corporations lists State Farm Florida Insurance Company, document number P98000101455, as its own active entity.

The company also states that the payments are retrospective and do not affect future auto rates, which it says are set on expected future costs.

How the payment arrives

Qualifying customers are notified either by post or by an email from donotreply@e.sfdividend.com. Those with an email address on file are directed to a payment portal at sfdividend.com, operated for the company by Verita, where they choose between a digital payment and a cheque. Those without an email address on file are sent a cheque automatically.

State Farm gives 1-888-808-9532 as the number for questions, including state-specific payment dates.

The release carries its own warning about imitation. The company states that it will not ask a customer to pay a fee of any kind to receive the payment, and that it will not ask for a personal email password, a banking password or a digital-wallet password.
