Southwest Florida faces a wet Wednesday, with Gulf Coast News meteorologist Allyson Rae warning that some locations could receive multiple inches of rain.

Rae designated Wednesday a Weather Impact Day. She said saturated ground raises the risk of minor flooding as a front brings widespread downpours to the region.

The National Weather Service forecast for Fort Myers calls for widespread showers and thunderstorms, an 80 percent chance of rain and one quarter to one half inch of new rainfall during the day. Another one quarter to one half inch is possible Wednesday night.

The Weather Service forecast for Naples gives the city a 70 percent chance of storms and calls for three quarters to one inch during the day. Another one half to three quarters of an inch is possible Wednesday night.

No National Weather Service flood watch, warning or advisory was active for Lee or Collier County at the verification check. The forecast is not a flood warning, but brief heavy rain can still cover roads and overwhelm poor drainage.

Drivers should allow extra time and should never enter a flooded road. Turn around and use another route when water covers the pavement.
