A thunderstorm over North Naples was capable of producing a funnel cloud, the National Weather Service in Miami said in a statement issued at 4:26 p.m. Thursday. It cited potential gusts of 45 to 50 mph and expired at 5 p.m. Eastern.
Radar placed the storm near Bonita Springs, moving northwest at 15 mph. The locations named in the statement included Naples Park, Pelican Bay, Vineyards and Golden Gate Estates, according to the NWS.
The statement reported no tornado touchdown. It described a radar-indicated hazard and advised people in the affected area to shelter indoors away from windows until the storm passed. The agency said gusts could break small branches and scatter unsecured objects.
