Elena Key at WINK News reported Thursday that a family of four escaped a trailer fire near Pondella Road in North Fort Myers and lost everything in the fire.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office had warned drivers on Wednesday evening that an active structure fire near Pondella Road was affecting traffic on the Caloosahatchee Bridge and northbound U.S. 41. The official advisory asked drivers to use other routes while first responders worked the fire.
WINK reported that Anyury Fernandez said her two sons had been asleep when smoke entered the home. The family left without shoes, and one of the teenagers sought help from a nearby mechanic shop, according to Key's account.
Firefighters extinguished the fire. WINK reported that the Red Cross arranged a hotel stay for the family and that Fernandez said her sons were safe.
No cause appears in the available official record. WINK said it contacted North Fort Myers Fire Department for that information.
