North Fort Myers fire district says a camp fire on Fourth Way was accidental and no one was hurt

A fire burned through an area where people were staying on Fourth Way in North Fort Myers Wednesday afternoon, Gulf Coast News reporter Layza Pinero Resto reported.

The North Fort Myers Fire Control District said no one was injured and that the cause was accidental. The district published the findings in an official statement Wednesday.

Gulf Coast News reported that flames were burning at about 1:30 p.m. and that smoke could be seen across the area. The Lee County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene, according to the report.

The fire was extinguished Wednesday afternoon. The district urged residents to clear unnecessary combustible material, keep combustibles away from heat and dispose of lithium ion batteries properly rather than putting them in trash or recycling.
