In a traffic advisory published on its own feed, the agency said there was a roadblock at the junction because of downed power lines, that the northbound and southbound lanes of McGregor were shut down and that cars were being diverted. It asked the public to avoid the area and find an alternate route.

Gulf Coast News logged the report on its dated traffic blotter for August 10 at 2.58 p.m., attributing the same details to the sheriff's office.

When this site read the sheriff's feed at 5.03 p.m., that advisory was still the agency's most recent post, sitting above an unrelated crash advisory from August 9. No reopening had been announced by either the sheriff's office or Gulf Coast News, and nothing on the agency's page carried an all clear.

That is an absence of any further statement rather than a fresh confirmation from the sheriff that the road remains shut, and this item is written on that basis.

Update, 7.15 p.m. Monday. The sheriff's feed was read again more than four hours after the closure was first reported. The same advisory was still the newest post on it, still sitting above the unrelated August 9 item, and the page still carried no reopening, no all clear and no further word of any kind on the junction. Gulf Coast News had not updated its blotter entry either. Because no agency has confirmed the closure is still running and the only statement about it is now several hours old, this item is no longer flagged as an item happening now. Nobody has announced that the road has reopened.

The junction is not inside the Fort Myers city limits. A reverse geocode of the point where Bay Drive meets McGregor returns Lee County and postcode 33919 with no city, placing it in unincorporated Lee County on the McGregor corridor between the city and Iona, which is consistent with the sheriff's office rather than a municipal police department handling it. The Florida Highway Patrol's dispatch board carried no entry for the incident when it was read at the same time. The board was populated, with 91 incident rows statewide and two in Lee and Collier, both crashes on Interstate 75 and both already cleared.
