Every precautionary boil water notice on the Lee County Utilities map now carries a lift date, leaving the county water utility with none in force, while Cape Coral, which runs its own system, still has two areas under notice and one of them is into a fourth day
Lee County Utilities has no precautionary boil water notice in force this morning. A count run against the county's own notice map for records carrying no rescinded date returns zero, against a layer the same server confirms holds eight records in total.
The last three came off on Sunday morning within thirty two seconds of one another, stamped 8.31 and 8.32 a.m.
They were a 6 inch main break at 1252 McNeil Road, logged on Thursday afternoon and cleared after 66 and a half hours, which covered 892, 900 and 916 Pondella Road, 1245 through 1254 McNeil Road and all of Pondella Circle; a three quarter inch service leak at 6351 Bayshore Road affecting a single unit, cleared after 60 and a half hours; and an 8 inch main repair at 6798 Wolf Run Lane, cleared after 47 and a half hours, covering 6786 through 6798 Wolf Run Lane, 16259 through 16296 Willow Stream Lane and 16280 Mirror Lake Drive.
Two others came off on Friday morning. The fire hydrant replacement at 577 Keenan Avenue, which also took in 585 Keenan Avenue and 12540 McGregor Boulevard, was rescinded at 10.42, and the valve replacement at Beacon Street and Aldridge Avenue was rescinded three minutes later, covering Beacon Street from Crystal Drive to Dover Avenue, Aldridge Avenue from Beacon Street to Austin Street and 12377 South Cleveland Avenue.
Those elapsed times sit inside the window the county publishes. Lee County Utilities states that a notice remains in effect until bacteriological testing confirms the water is safe to drink, and that the process typically takes 48 to 72 hours.
The utility also states why the notices go up at all. It issues one when water pressure in a main line drops below 20 psi, typically from a main break or during scheduled maintenance, in accordance with Florida Department of Environmental Protection guidelines, and it says the notice is precautionary and issued even where contamination has not been confirmed.
Cape Coral is a different water system and its position is different. The city runs its own utility and publishes its own map, and that map still showed two active areas when it was read shortly after half past four on Monday morning, neither carrying a lift date.
The larger, 42.83 acres around 909 Cape Coral Parkway West, was logged at 7.22 on Sunday morning and has been in force a little over 21 hours. The smaller, 22.93 acres around 3622 SE 5th Court, was logged at 10.45 on Friday morning and has now passed 65 hours, taking it into a fourth calendar day and beyond the two to three day window the county utility describes for its own notices.
Both were reported by this site when they were issued, on August 8 and August 9. Neither has been lifted since.
Residents inside either Cape Coral shape should keep bringing tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking it, cooking with it, making ice with it, brushing their teeth with it or washing dishes with it, or use bottled water, until the city rescinds the notice.
