The crash that closed northbound Interstate 75 at Naples this afternoon has been retyped by the state as a fatality, the sixth description it has given one call, with the left lane still blocked more than three and a half hours after the first unit was sent

The Florida Highway Patrol is now carrying its Interstate 75 northbound call at mile marker 111 in Naples as a fatality. Until early this evening the same call was typed as a crash with injuries and a roadblock.
The left lane is still blocked. The right and center lanes are open, as they have been since shortly after half past five, and that part of the record has not moved.
This is the same Collier County call this desk wrote up at 4.38, at 5.06 and again at 5.32, not a new one. It was received at 4.29 this afternoon, a unit was recorded dispatched at 4.30 and a unit reached the scene at 4.40. Those three stamps, along with the county, the location string and the published coordinates, are identical to every earlier reading. The remarks are identical too. The only field that has moved is the type.
That retype happened between 6.04 and 6.09 this evening. This desk polls the same state board every five minutes and stamps each check in UTC. The check at 6.04 saw no change on the row. The check at 6.09 was the first to carry the new type, and two direct readings of the board at 6.15 confirm it.
Fatality is the state's own one word classification of its own call, and it is the whole of what the public record says. The board publishes a type, a location, three timestamps and a remarks line. It gives no number of people killed, no number injured, no cause, no vehicle count, no names, no ages and no vehicle types. None of that is known and none of it should be read in. The Highway Patrol has issued no release on this call, nobody has been accused of anything, and no fault is stated or implied by anyone.
It is the sixth description the state has given this one call in under four hours, after a disabled vehicle with the center lane blocked, a crash with a roadblock, a crash with injuries with the left and center lanes blocked, a full closure of all northbound lanes, and the partial reopening that left the left lane down.
No local outlet had this at the time of writing. The WINK News and NBC-2 home pages were both read directly on this run and neither carried anything on an Interstate 75 fatality, so this rests on the state record alone and there is no other reporting to set beside it.
Two cautions on the source itself. The board has no clearance column, so if this row later vanishes rather than changing to clear wording, that is the state ending publication of the call and not the state announcing that every lane is back. And the separate southbound crash that sat at this same mile marker earlier, which the state said blocked nothing, is no longer on the board at all. That is the same kind of disappearance and it says nothing about the northbound scene.
The board was genuinely populated on both checks behind this item, carrying 101 incident rows across 29 counties, so neither is a failed read reporting a false all clear.
