Two men accused Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson of sexual misconduct during public comment at Monday's City Council meeting, WINK News reporters Chorus Nylander and Brianna Lanham reported.

Anderson denied the allegations during the meeting. He called the claims false and taken out of context and said he would remain focused on city business.

The City of Fort Myers official meeting recording identifies the September 21 regular meeting and its non-agenda public comment period. WINK reported that residents called for Anderson to resign and that council members announced no formal action.

Gulf Coast News reporter Evan Dean separately reported the accusations and Anderson's denial. Dean reported that a Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokesperson confirmed the agency received an inquiry concerning Anderson and that the matter is closed, but did not provide an outcome or details. WINK reported that no criminal charges were filed in that matter.

The allegations remain disputed. Neither local report identified a criminal charge arising from them.
