Fort Myers police lifted the Cleveland Avenue roadblocks at 11:13 a.m. on Wednesday, after a morning scene the department described as a barricaded subject with shots fired

The Fort Myers Police Department reopened Cleveland Avenue at 11:13 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, ending a closure that had been in place through the morning while officers worked a scene on Maravilla Avenue.

The department posted three times about the incident. Its first post said officers were on scene of an active incident on Maravilla Avenue and that a southbound roadblock was in place on Cleveland Avenue from Maravilla Avenue to Halgrim Avenue, with motorists urged to seek alternate routes.

In an update the department marked 9:43 a.m., it said it was actively working a scene involving a barricaded subject with shots fired on Maravilla Avenue. The same update said the incident was isolated and there was no threat to the public, and that roadblocks would remain in place for an undetermined amount of time.

In a second update, marked 11:13 a.m., the department said the roadblocks in the area had been lifted, and that it continues to investigate the incident.

The WINK News Digital Team reported the closure on Wednesday morning while it was still in place.
