What it changes

Start with why this is being reported from a map rather than from a notice, because that is the unusual part. The City of Fort Myers runs its own water system, separate from Lee County Utilities and separate again from Cape Coral, and it publishes its boil water areas as a live geographic layer. This site queries that layer on every watch run, and on every run before this one it returned an empty feature set. It now returns three areas, all coded Active, and the layer's own edit timestamp puts the change at 4:24 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday. An empty layer becoming a populated one is a real event, and it is the reason this item exists. What makes it awkward to report is that the city filled in the shapes and nothing else. Every one of the three records carries a null break date, a null rescission date and a blank name. The layer is capable of holding all three, and on the city's own account is meant to: its item description says the layer records the date the break occurred and the date the notice was rescinded. Here it records neither. So the honest position is that the city's authoritative map says three areas are under an active boil water notice, and the city has published no start time, no cause, no affected address list and no expected duration to go with it. Where the three areas are is this site's own work, and it is worth being explicit about the method because a wrong answer here would send the wrong households to the stove. Four interior points were sampled inside each shape and reverse geocoded. All four points in the first shape return streets inside Paseo, including Paseo Grande Boulevard, Rosalinda Court, Sarita Court and Provencia Court. All four in the second return streets inside Reflection Isles, including Reflection Isles Boulevard, River Otter Drive and Red Bluff Lane. All four in the third return streets inside Botanica Lakes, including Mimosa Silk Drive, Pond Cypress Street, Sand Pine Court and Sparkleberry Drive. The shapes align with the communities cleanly rather than clipping their edges, which is why they are named here at all. There is a reason not to assume this repeats an earlier event. In July 2024, as WGCU reported, the City of Fort Myers Public Utilities Department issued a boil water alert for subdivisions off Treeline Avenue after repairs to a 24 inch water main, and that notice covered Botanica Lakes among many others while explicitly stating that Paseo and Reflection Isles were not under it. Wednesday's footprint is not that footprint. Two of the three areas now on the map are the two the city specifically excluded two years ago, and the long list of communities from 2024, Pelican Preserve, Colonial Country Club, Marina Bay, Arborwood Preserve and the rest, is absent. Whatever this is, it is a different event, and the 2024 notice is not a guide to its cause or its extent. The practical advice is deliberately conservative. A precautionary boil water notice is a precaution, and utilities in this region issue them when main pressure drops below 20 psi without any contamination having been found. If you live in Paseo, Reflection Isles or Botanica Lakes, the city's Public Utilities Department is the authority on whether that applies to your address and when it lifts, and it is worth calling rather than relying on a map with blank fields. Two absences are worth recording rather than smoothing over. No Southwest Florida outlet had reported this as of 5:15 p.m. Eastern: WINK's Lee County page carried no mention of Treeline, Paseo, Botanica Lakes or Reflection Isles, and its only boil water item was the lifted Babcock Ranch notice, which is Charlotte County. And the city's own website could not be reached at all, on either port, from two different networks, so the page that would normally carry the notice text could not be read. Neither absence disproves the map. Both are the reason this item reports the map as a map.

The feature layer that the City of Fort Myers publishes its boil water notice areas from now holds three areas, and all three are coded Active.

The layer had been empty. This site queries it on every watch run, and every earlier query this month returned no features at all. The layer's own editing metadata reports that its data was last changed at 4:24 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, July 29, which places the addition of the three areas on Wednesday afternoon.

The city runs its own water system. It is separate from Lee County Utilities, which had four notices of its own in effect on Wednesday morning, and separate again from Cape Coral, which publishes its own map. A Lee County Utilities customer or a Cape Coral customer is not covered by anything described here.

Where the three areas are is this site's own reading of the shapes, because the city did not name them. Four interior points were sampled inside each of the three and reverse geocoded against OpenStreetMap.

The first area covers Paseo, returning Paseo Grande Boulevard, Rosalinda Court, Sarita Court and Provencia Court. The second covers Reflection Isles, returning Reflection Isles Boulevard, River Otter Drive and Red Bluff Lane. The third covers Botanica Lakes, returning Mimosa Silk Drive, Pond Cypress Street, Sand Pine Court and Sparkleberry Drive. All three sit in the 33966 postcode. They measure roughly 1.8, 1.8 and 1.2 square kilometres.

What the city has not recorded is most of the rest. Each of the three records carries a null break date, a null rescission date and a blank area name. The layer is built to hold those values, and the city's own published description of it says it records the date a break occurred and the date a notice was rescinded. On these three records it records neither.

So the city's authoritative map states that three areas are under an active notice, and the city has published no start time, no cause, no affected address list and no expected duration alongside it.

This is not a repeat of the last such event. In July 2024, WGCU reported that the City of Fort Myers Public Utilities Department had issued a boil water alert covering subdivisions off Treeline Avenue after repairs to a 24 inch water main. That notice covered Botanica Lakes, among a long list including Pelican Preserve, Colonial Country Club, Marina Bay and Arborwood Preserve, and it stated explicitly that Paseo and Reflection Isles were not under a boil water notice.

Wednesday's three areas are not that set. Two of the three are the communities the city specifically excluded in 2024, and most of the 2024 list is not on the map now. The earlier event is not a guide to the cause or the extent of this one.

Two things could not be confirmed, and both are stated rather than worked around.

The city's own website could not be reached. Both fortmyers.gov and cityftmyers.com resolve to the same address, confirmed independently through Cloudflare's DNS over HTTPS service, and that address refused connections on both port 443 and port 80 from two separate networks. The page that would ordinarily carry the notice text could not be read at all.

And no Southwest Florida outlet had reported this as of 5:15 p.m. Eastern. WINK News's Lee County page carried no mention of Treeline Avenue, Paseo, Reflection Isles or Botanica Lakes, and its only boil water item was the lifted notice at Babcock Ranch, which is in Charlotte County.

Neither of those absences contradicts the map. They are the reason this item reports what the city's map shows and stops there.

A precautionary boil water notice is a precaution. Utilities in this region issue them when pressure in a main drops below 20 psi, and they state that a notice does not mean contamination has been found. Anyone in Paseo, Reflection Isles or Botanica Lakes should treat the City of Fort Myers Public Utilities Department as the authority on whether a notice applies to their address and when it is lifted.

Community names are this site's own reading, from reverse geocoding four interior sample points per shape against OpenStreetMap, not from the city, which recorded no area names.
