Demolition of the remaining Fort Myers Beach Pier structure is scheduled to begin after Labor Day weekend. The town says people near Times Square should expect construction noise, temporary work along the Estero Boulevard sidewalk and pedestrian detours. Fort Myers Beach plans to begin demolishing the remaining pier structure after Labor Day weekend, with construction noise and temporary pedestrian changes expected near Times Square.
Gulf Coast News reporter Layza Pinero Resto reported the schedule Sunday after reviewing the town's notice. No demolition crews were scheduled during the holiday weekend, but the area remained an active construction zone.
Sidewalk activity north of Times Square
The town says demolition will bring temporary activity along the Estero Boulevard sidewalk north of Times Square. Pedestrians may encounter detours or changes in access and should follow the signs posted around the work zone.
The notice did not give a more precise start time or a separate completion date for demolition. Businesses, residents and visitors closest to the pier should expect construction noise once the work begins.
The replacement pier remains a summer 2027 project
Lee County's current Fort Myers Beach Pier Replacement Project page says the replacement is already in construction and is scheduled for completion in summer 2027, weather permitting.
The rebuilt pier is designed to extend 1,000 feet and measure 12 feet wide, making it longer and wider than the structure destroyed by Hurricane Ian. The county says the project has reached 100 percent design completion, although minor adjustments may still be made during construction.
The demolition notice concerns the remaining old structure and the immediate work area. It does not move the county's published completion target for the replacement pier.
