Fire crews contained a blaze at a Fort Myers home built in 1926 that had been divided into an efficiency, and the fire department reported no injuries

Fort Myers firefighters brought a fire at a nearly hundred year old house under control on Thursday, July 30, and the fire department reported no injuries.

The house was built in 1926 and runs about two thousand square feet, according to Fort Myers Fire Department Chief McMillion, who described the scene to WINK News. The chief said the house had been divided into an efficiency, with individual rooms and multiple electrical panels.

The owner was at the property when the fire broke out and attempted to recover some equipment. Lee County Emergency Medical Services treated the owner at the scene, and the department said hospital treatment was not required. No injuries to fire crews were reported.

Crews brought the fire under control and then remained on scene searching for hotspots, to confirm that no fire was still burning in void spaces inside the structure. In a house of that age that has been partitioned, those cavities are the reason a scene is held after the visible fire is out.

Florida Power and Light managed power to the area while crews worked.

The cause is under investigation. Fort Myers fire investigators had not begun their formal examination when the department gave its account, and no cause has been stated. No address was released.
