The European Commission said on July 10 that it had preliminarily found Meta in breach of the Digital Services Act over the design of Instagram and Facebook. The findings cover infinite scroll, autoplay, push notifications and personalised recommender systems. The Commission said Meta did not adequately assess the risks that design posed to the physical and mental wellbeing of users, including minors and vulnerable adults. It also said Meta's existing mitigation measures did not deal with those risks. Preliminary findings are not a final decision. Meta can respond before the Commission takes one. If the Commission confirms the findings, it can impose a fine of up to 6% of total annual worldwide turnover. Reported by Una Hajdari at Euronews.
