The Fort Myers Police Department has confirmed an active death investigation on Black Eagle Lane, the residential street off Colonial Boulevard inside the Heritage Palms golf community, and two Southwest Florida newsrooms reporting from the scene say part of the street was taped off on Monday evening with no cause released by the department

A close crop of dark grey asphalt in low warm light, crossed corner to corner by a single yellow painted road line, with a few dry twigs and specks of grit scattered across the surface. There is no text, signage, lettering, brand mark, person, vehicle, building or landmark anywhere in the frame, and nothing in it identifies any place. This is a plain road surface used as a neutral illustration rather than a picture of anything in this story: it is not a photograph of Black Eagle Lane, of the scene, of any police activity or of anywhere in Fort Myers. Its weakness is stated rather than glossed. A painted centre line belongs to a through road and Black Eagle Lane is a residential street inside a golf community, and the Pexels library records the frame as having been taken in Fujian, though nothing visible in it says so.

The Fort Myers Police Department has confirmed that it is investigating a death on Black Eagle Lane in Fort Myers.

WINK News, which had a reporter at the scene on Monday evening, said the location is just off Colonial Boulevard near the Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club, that the department confirmed the active death investigation, and that officers had taped off part of the street while neighbours stood outside.

Gulf Coast News, reporting separately, said the same department confirmed the investigation and that officers told it there was no additional information available at this time.

The two newsrooms are independent of each other, which establishes that the department said this. Both are relaying the same agency, so they are not two independent confirmations of what happened.

Nothing published by the Fort Myers Police Department in its own words could be read on this run. The department's website was unreachable from this desk across repeated attempts on both the secure and insecure addresses, returning a connection failure rather than a page, so this item rests on the department's confirmation as relayed by the two newsrooms and on nothing else.

The street was located independently of either report. A query of OpenStreetMap returns a single way named Black Eagle Lane in the Fort Myers area, a residential street, and a reverse geocode of it returns Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club, Fort Myers, Lee County, postcode 33966. That matches the neighbourhood WINK names from the scene.

Neither the department nor either newsroom has released the identity of the person who died, their age, a cause or manner of death, a time, or an address on the street. Neither has said whether anyone else was involved, and no arrest has been announced.

The term used by the department, as relayed, is a death investigation. Nothing in the confirmed record characterises it beyond that, and nothing here should be read as doing so.
