A hit-and-run crash was blocking Alico Road southbound where it meets Corkscrew Road in eastern Lee County at two o'clock this morning, Gulf Coast News reported, and the state dispatch board carried no Lee County entry half an hour later

Gulf Coast News reported shortly after 2 o'clock this morning that the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash on Alico Road near Corkscrew Road in Lee County, and that the Patrol told the station the southbound lanes were blocked because of emergency vehicles at the scene.
That report is the whole of what has been published. The item runs to four sentences under the byline of Spencer Schenkel, went out at 2.00 and was last touched at 2.03, and it says in the station's own words that the newsroom was still asking whether anyone had been hurt. No injury count, no vehicle count, no cause, no names and no vehicle description is on the public record. Nobody has been named and nobody has been accused of anything.
The junction itself can be pinned exactly, and it is worth pinning, because the name Alico Road usually calls to mind the industrial corridor beside Interstate 75. This is the other end of it. Alico Road, which is County Road 840, meets Corkscrew Road, County Road 850, at a single point in eastern Lee County, at 26.4531 north and 81.7038 west, in the 33913 postcode, out in open country well beyond the Fort Myers city limits that the station's own label suggests.
Two details of that junction matter for anyone driving it. Both roads carry two lanes there, one in each direction, so a southbound lane blocked at that point is the only southbound lane and there is nothing to filter into. And Alico Road runs north and south as it comes down to the junction while Corkscrew Road runs east and west across it, which is what makes a southbound direction on Alico Road the approach to the Corkscrew Road end.
Whether the road is still blocked is the part that cannot be settled from the public record. The Florida Highway Patrol dispatch board was not carrying it. Three readings of the state's public incident view at 2.28 this morning each returned 39 incident rows across 19 counties, so none of the three is a failed read, and on every one of them there was no Lee or Collier entry of any kind and no occurrence anywhere in the page of either Alico or Corkscrew. The board was current to within about two minutes on those readings.
Two readings of that silence are open, and this item does not choose between them. The call may have cleared in the half hour between the station publishing and the board being read, or it may be a county road matter that never reached the board at all. That board carries only the calls the Patrol publishes to it, so a quiet board for a county is better read as nothing reported than as nothing happening. What follows from either reading is the same: the blockage is unconfirmed after 2.03 rather than lifted, and nobody has announced that the road is open.
No other outlet had the crash when this was written. The WINK Lee County page and the Gulf Coast News local index were both read on this run, and at roughly half an hour old at half past two in the morning the quiet elsewhere is unsurprising rather than meaningful.
Nothing in the weather is contributing as far as the record goes.
